Embracing Small Beginnings

Zechariah 4:9-10 (NKJV)
“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; His hands shall also finish it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you. For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.”
When it comes to pursuing the plans and call of God, there are many who miss out on some of the great things He has for them because they struggle to see beyond their current situation and (seeming) limitations. Sometimes we look at what God placed in our hands and immediately think “Lord, how am I supposed to do anything with this?”; We choose to throw in the towel before even considering the possibilities of what could be. With this mindset, we create countless excuses for why we can’t get started on something and invent a million reasons why we should give up before the fruit has a chance to grow. If we continue this cycle and sustain this mentality, it can become challenging for us to make progress in what God has created us to do in this short life we get to live. If you feel like you don’t have enough money, time, energy, wisdom, help, guidance, support, or faith, I want you to know that what you have right now is enough.
My friend, there is nothing too small for God to work with. Jesus, our risen King even said that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, nothing would be impossible for us (Matthew 17:20). We serve the God who took five loaves and two fish, made it multiply to feed thousands, and there was still leftovers (John 6:1-15). If He can do that with a little bit of carbs and protein, how much more do you think He’ll do with the “little” that’s in your hand?
Whether it’s an idea, a plan, a dream, or a vision, that’s more than enough to start with. YOU have direct access to the God of the universe who is there to teach, guide, and instruct you as you walk this thing out. Whether you might be starting a weight loss journey, trying out therapy, reading through the entire Bible, submitting job applications, applying for school, learning a new skill or language, starting a business, or launching a ministry you have to start somewhere or else you’ll get nowhere. For anyone stuck in doubt, let me remind you that God did not make a mistake with the gifts, talents, skills, abilities, ideas, passions, and interests He gave you. He did not make a mistake with the place or generation you were born in, the family you grew up with, the language you speak, the color of your skin, or the gender you were born. He created you ON PURPOSE, FOR PURPOSE. Don’t allow the perils of life, or the identity-distorting lies of the enemy build a prison of doubt about His plan for you. He’s ready to guide you and help you fulfill the good works He created you to walk in (Ephesians 2:10), but it is up to you to take that first step with Him. Be encouraged and don’t despise the days of small beginnings. With God, your ‘end' is guaranteed to be good.
PRAY
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for loving me and creating me for such a time as this. I trust that you have a plan and that you want to prosper me (Jeremiah 29:11). Holy Spirit, I ask that you lead me and align me to the will of the Father. I surrender all fear and doubt and ask that you would give me eyes to see my own value and the value of what you’ve given me to work with in this season of my life. Lord, bless the works of my hands (Deuteronomy 28:12) and give me strength to persevere. I trust that You are working in me to do what pleases You (Philippians 2:13) and that You will work all things together for my good (Romans 8:28). In Jesus’ name—Amen.
